TONALi “Die Unvollendeten” ("The Unfinished") based on Franz Schubert’s "Unfinished Symphony"

Classical concert by the cultural and educational project TONALi in cooperation with the pupils of the district schools Geschwister Scholl and Eidelstedt. In the project "Die Unvollendeten" (The Unfinished), academics from the TONALi Academy work together with 12 Hamburg school classes on a shared art experience that blurs and questions the boundaries between artists and audiences and creates new (experiential) spaces. In the process, they encounter Franz Schubert's "Unfinished Symphony", interpreted by the TONALi Orchestra under the direction of Aurel Dawidiuk. In these encounters, the artistic creative potentials of all participants will be uncovered. What relevance does Western European classical music, which is two hundred years old, have today? Only in the active interaction between the existing work and today's diverse society can this question be answered in an understandable way. Accordingly, the project "The Unfinished" explores the space between the work and the audience, throws the spotlight on this in-between area, illuminating it and lifting the rich, undiscovered treasure that we so need for a world shaped together. Reflecting artistically on well-known works of classical music in the mirror of a post-migrant society is in line with a holistic approach that we seek to test in order to generate new identification. Paired in tandems, from 3 July to 8 July, two Akademist:innen and two school classes will each present their very own variant of interaction with Franz Schubert's "Unfinished", played live by the TONALi Orchestra, in a different part of Hamburg, creating six completely different evenings in different places with different people. On 9 July, Cymin Samawatie and Ketan Bhatti will bundle the six individual approaches into the dramaturgical highlight of the week, the joint final concert in the Great Hall of the Elbphilharmonie.
