LOCATION:

The DESY laboratory in Hamburg is located in Bahrenfeld, a nice and quiet suburb west of the Hamburg City Center. DESY is well served by public transport, with a number of bus lines and subway stops close by. The City Center is about a 20min subway and bus ride away from DESY. The scenic ELBE river with many parks and nice promenades is within a 30min walk of the laboratory, or a 10min bus ride. The conference secretariat will be staffed throughout the meeting from 9:00 in the morning till the end of the sessions. The morning and the afternoon sessions will have a coffee break of approx. 30min, where coffee, tea etc will be available.

Because of its location in a suburb of Hamburg there are only a few lunch places close to DESY which are open during the weekend. We will therefore arrange for a light lunch to be served at the DESY bistro / canteen at Saturday and Sunday. Details will be announced at the meeting.

On the evening of the first day a welcome reception will be held at the DESY EXPO starting at around 19:00h. Participants will have the opportunity to visit the exhibition, walk through a 100m stretch of TESLA tunnel, and enjoy some drink and food.

The conference dinner will be on Sunday evening.

REGISTRATION:

You are responsible for making your own arrangements for accomodations. A  few suggested hotels  are available for your convenience. Make sure you mention the ECFA/DESY workshop when booking to take advantage of some special deals. A few rooms have been reserved at the DESY hostel for people with little or no funds. Please contact the  secretariat if you like to get more information on this and make a reservation.

There will be no registration fee for participants. The meeting is sponsored by DESY, the german reasearch council, and the Wissenschaftsbehoerde der Freien und Hansestadt Hamburg

FACILITIES:

• Throughout DESY public terminals are available. A special account will be available upon request from the secretariat.
• Printers: a pool of public printers is available in the DESY computing center. Facilities to pring both b/w and color transparencies exist.
• Overhead projectors
• Video projectors will be available upon request.
• Copy machine: there are a number of copy machines available at DESY. Please contact the secretariat if you need access to one of them.

WEATHER:

The weather in Hamburg in early autumn can be unpredictable. Come prepared for some rain, but don't be surprised if the sun is shining. The mean temperature in September is between 16 and 22 degree C.

The DESY Bistro offers a breakfast for DM 12,50.  For  lunch you could choose a warm meal  for DM 8,50 or a mixed salad plate for DM 6,00.
