   Short description of the project the student should work on  :

	The summer student will work on the analysis of Particle-In-Cell (PIC) 
	simulations in the plasma acceleration group. These simulations serve 
	as preparatory studies for plasma acceleration experiments which will 
	be conducted at DESY in the nearest future. Achieving high beam quality 
	(small energy spread, small emittance) is of crucial importance for future 
	success of plasma acceleration experiments, and PIC simulations provide 
	important insight into the dynamics of the injected particle beam. The 
	student will work on calculations and analysis of the most important 
	beam parameters, with the goal of further optimization of the injection 
	and acceleration processes.

   Physics / Computing/ Engineering  Content of the project :

   The analysis will be done with C++/ROOT libraries or Matlab.

  Special Qualifications expected from the student ( Computing,...) :
 
  Initial knowledge of C++ or Matlab or at least basic programming skills in unix environments are required.
