   Short description of the project the student should work on  :

	Explorations into parallel data processing for photon science experiments.
	With the recent changes in computing architecture, and the move to many core
	systems, established approaches to data processing are becoming significantly
	less efficient in terms of CPU and RAM utilisation. The student would be expected
	to take some of the tools available and run them against profiling tools to 
	gain some understanding of where the performance bottle-necks are to be found.

   Physics / Computing/ Engineering  Content of the project :

	Data analysis of photon science data.

  Special Qualifications expected from the student ( Computing,...) :
 
	Good understanding of programming and scripting is essential.
	Previous experience with Python would be an advantage.
