Gamma rays as carriers of information about sources of galactic and extragalactic cosmic rays

After 100+ years of discovery of cosmic rays, many issues regarding the physics and astrophysics of cosmic rays remain unsolved. I will discuss the key role of gamma-ray astronomy towards the understanding of the origin of galactic and extragalactic cosmic rays.
