Theory seminarThe Improved Quantum Null Energy Condition and Suppressing the Intrinsic Curvature
Ido Ben-Dayan (Ariel University)
The talk will consist of two parts. First, by rearranging its terms the Quantum Focusing Conjecture (QFC) can be viewed as a quantum energy condition, and we can consider various limits. I will review the status of energy conditions in general relativity and the QFC. As a result, I derive an improved quantum null energy condition (INEC), that can be proven with field theory techniques. I sketch the beginning of a proof, and briefly discuss possible interpretations in the absence of one. Second, curvature in gravity can be decomposed to extrinsic curvature and intrinsic curvature. Bizarrely, the intrinsic curvature vanishes (or is extremely small) in immediate realistic examples such as Cosmology or black holes. Inspired by the axion mechanism, I will present a modified theory of gravity where the intrinsic curvature is suppressed or absent from the equations of motion, and its implications.
