Fault in an isolated, underground technical room
Operation of synchrotron facilities affected by fire
During the past night, a fire broke out in an isolated, underground technical room at DESY. Thanks to the rapid intervention of the Technical Emergency Service at DESY and the Hamburg Fire Department, the fire could be extinguished immediately and no persons were injured. Due to this incident, operation of the research facilities DESY II and PETRA III is currently impaired.
A DESY technical team is working at full speed to analyse the cause of the fire and bring the facilities back into operation as quickly as possible. We thank all emergency service teams for their rapid response and will inform about further developments as necessary
