Maintaining good relations with our neighbours is important to us. That is why it is a DESY tradition to maintain trustworthy contact and dialogue with our neighbours and to inform them about planned measures.
Current news: In January 2026, Hamburger Energienetze and the Borough of Altona will begin construction work in Lise-Meitner-Park. New power lines must be laid to supply the surrounding district as well as DESY. This work is not directly related to our planned PETRA IV project, which has not yet been approved by the federal government. We anticipate the federal government's decision on PETRA IV in the first half of 2026.
The power lines supplying the district and DESY need to be replaced due to their age. Replacing them now brings a major advantage for the possible future construction work for DESY’s future project PETRA IV: Once the federal government has given the go-ahead, construction work on PETRA IV can begin immediately.

You can register for a tour with us or take a virtual tour. From January 2026, we will be stepping up our neighbourhood activities again and look forward to welcoming you as neighbours to our events.

In mid-January, Hamburger Energienetze will begin construction work in Lise-Meitner-Park: the power cables there need to be replaced. To this end, two information events were held in September in cooperation with the Altona Borough office for residents of Stiefmütterchenweg and Flottbeker Drift. The discussion at the events focused on the expected construction traffic for local residents. DESY offered to route most of the construction traffic for the new power line through the DESY campus, thereby avoiding disruption on both roads.
Yes. Hamburger Energienetze is responsible for the construction work in January and attaches great importance to involving local residents. DESY is also happy to receive any questions or complaints that may arise and will clarify them with Hamburger Energienetze.
