Trainers and their trainees: Benjamin Behm (trainer, ZM), Björn Hager (interim head of ZM), Alexander Pülsch, Annika Behrendt and Sabine Marquart (trainer ZM)
DESY's trainees are the best! Both in Hamburg and in Zeuthen, trainees in various professions are among the most successful in their year. Til Étienne Kaeber, a trainee in Zeuthen, was honoured as the best electronics technician for devices and systems and industrial mechanic Vanessa Kunze as one of the best of her year by the Cottbus Chamber of Industry and Commerce. The Hamburg Chamber of Commerce also honoured a total of 64 young talents, including two trainees from DESY in Hamburg. Annika Behrendt won as technical product designer specialising in machine and system design, Alexander Pülsch as electronics technician for devices and systems. Both will remain at DESY and now work in the ATLAS and MPC1 groups. Til will also remain at DESY for one year and then build on his training as an electronics technician by studying electrical engineering. Vanessa has started a dual study programme at the TH Wildau, with the practical part taking place at DESY.

The ceremony for the Hamburg trainees in the Börsensaal of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce was hosted by the Senator for Schools, Ksenija Bekeris, and the Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce, Sascha Schneider. In their speeches, they not only emphasised the exceptional achievements of the trainees, but also underlined the importance of training companies and vocational schools: Training is a crucial key to countering the shortage of skilled labour - and the economy has this key in its own hands. The honour sends a clear signal that excellence in education is not only a personal success, but also a benefit for Hamburg as a business location. At the celebrations in Cottbus, IHK President Jens Warnken made it clear that the conditions on the German labour market are very attractive for those with professional qualifications and that investing in further qualifications is always worthwhile.

And if you've always wanted to know what it's like to train as an electrician for devices and systems, we can recommend this video by the Cottbus Chamber of Industry and Commerce about Til's work!
