School labs

DESY holds experiment days for school students on various topics from the world of physics at its school labs in Hamburg and Zeuthen near Berlin. DESY is committed to supporting students in independent experimentation, helping to spark their interest in and understanding of scientific questions and methods. As an internationally renowned research centre, DESY provides a unique and authentic learning environment. In addition, a range of professional development courses for teachers is offered at both sites.

DESY & schools

DESY has been running a school lab at its Hamburg site since 1997. From 2004, experimentation in the lab for school students in Zeuthen became a popular programme. Workshops for different age groups in Zeuthen can be found on the following page:

School labs run by DESY’s partners

DESY operates one of the oldest school labs in Germany. There are also two other laboratories for school students on the research campus in Science City Hamburg Bahrenfeld:
